University of Wisconsin–Madison Alzheimer’s disease research programs are featured in the August 2024 issue of Madison Magazine.
There are more than 110,000 Wisconsin residents living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia, a number expected to more than double in the next two decades. Research programs at UW–Madison are dedicated to finding treatments to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, to delay or prevent symptoms, and to establish methods to better provide care for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
The article includes interviews with several scientists and faculty members from UW–Madison, including Cynthia Carlsson, MD, MS, and her research lab’s investigation of the monoclonal antibody lecanemab through the AHEAD study. Nathaniel Chin, MD, shares his perspective as a geriatrician working with people with dementia and his family’s experience when his father was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
Maria Mora Pinzon, MD, MS, Sterling Johnson, PhD, and a research participant enrolled in the AHEAD study are also highlighted in the article.
