Natascha Merten, PhD, MS, was awarded a Fall Research Competition award for 2024-2025 from the University of Wisconsin Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) and Graduate Education.

The Fall Research Competition is for tenured and associate professors, tenure-track assistant professors and permanent principal investigators (PIs) at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Funds for research projects are selected across each division — biological sciences, physical sciences, social sciences and the arts and humanities.

The award will fund Merten’s research, which will delve into emerging blood-based biomarkers for neurodegeneration and Alzheimer’s disease in the Beaver Dam Offspring Study (BOSS) cohort.
